Slaughter, LA- The first crash occurred shortly after midnight near the intersection of LA 67 and Noel Thomas Lane in East Feliciana Parish. Troopers’ investigation revealed that the crash occurred as 38 year old Derrick Daniel of Zachary, LA was traveling south on LA 67 in a 2007 Dodge Charger. As Daniel continued southbound, a 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck turned from a private drive into the southbound lane of LA 67 directly into the path of the Dodge Charger resulting in collision. After impact, the Chevrolet pickup ran off road to the right and overturned several times coming to final rest on its wheels. The Dodge Charger, after the collision, ran off road to the left and struck a roadside culvert before coming to rest on the east side of the roadway. Daniel was wearing a seatbelt and was transported to Baton Rouge General Medical Center with minor injuries. Front seat passenger in the Charger, 33 year old Kenneth Taylor of Baton Rouge, LA, received fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the East Feliciana Parish Coroner’s Office. Driver impairment is suspected for Daniel with charges pending the results of a toxicology analysis. The driver of the Chevrolet pickup, 36 year old Reggie Gross Jr of Clinton, LA, was wearing a seatbelt and received minor injuries in the crash. Gramercy, LA- The second crash took place shortly after 2:30 am on LA 3125 north of LA 642 in St. James Parish and took the life of the 46 year old driver, Leonard Green of Convent, LA. Preliminary investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Green was driving north on LA 3125 in a 2008 Kia sedan while engaged in a verbal and physical altercation with his front seat passenger. During the course of the argument, the front seat passenger, 43 year old Tracy Young of St. James, LA, grabbed and jerked the steering wheel of the vehicle resulting in the Kia leaving the roadway to the right. As the Kia sedan left the paved roadway, it overturned several times before coming to rest on the east side of the highway. Green sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. James Parish Coroner’s Office. Young and rear seat passenger, 57 year old Allen Jacque of Convent, LA, received moderate to severe injuries in the crash and remain hospitalized at this time.
