TROOP A NEWS RELEASE
November 21, 2012

Port Allen - This morning shortly after 1:00 am, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash on I-10 at Milepost 146 in West Baton Rouge Parish near the Iberville Parish line. The crash took the life of 29 year old Maringouin resident Reginald D. Head.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Head was driving a 2004 Lincoln Town Car west on I-10 in the left hand lane. The Town Car traveled to the left onto the rumble strips beyond the solid yellow fog line. Head overcorrected to the right, causing his vehicle to re-enter the roadway and rotate clockwise. The Town Car then crossed both lanes of I-10 westbound before exiting the roadway to the right and striking a tree on the driver’s side. Head’s vehicle came to rest in an elevated position in a densely wooded area.

Despite the fact that he was wearing his seatbelt, Head was partially ejected from the vehicle. Alcohol use is unknown at this time; however, excessive speed is considered to be a factor in the crash. Troopers have submitted a toxicology sample from Head to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

This is the time of year when Troopers usually see a significant increase in serious injury and fatal crashes. With the holiday season upon us, Louisiana State Police would like to remind motorists to be extra cautious when driving on our roadways. Aggressive and impaired driving are the leading causes of fatal crashes throughout the state. Impaired drivers are a danger to themselves and a danger to everyone else on the roadway. Louisiana State Police will be on the roadways throughout this holiday season aggressively enforcing the state’s laws in an effort to keep everyone safe.
