TROOP A NEWS RELEASE
November 28, 2012

Jackson - This morning shortly before 11:00 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 19 north of LA Hwy 10 in East Feliciana Parish. The crash took the life of 18 year old Centreville, MS resident Riquita B. Jackson.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Jackson was driving a 2012 Honda Accord south on LA Hwy 19. For unknown reasons, the Accord traveled off the roadway to the right where it entered a ditch, struck a culvert and became airborne. The vehicle then struck a tree and came to rest.

Despite the fact that she was wearing her seatbelt, Jackson sustained fatal injuries. Alcohol use is unknown at this time; however, Troopers have submitted a toxicology sample from Jackson to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts and child restraints can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.
