TROOP A NEWS RELEASE
November 29, 2012

Torbert - This evening shortly after 5:30 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on US 190 south of LA Hwy 978 in Pointe Coupee Parish. The crash took the life of 56 year old Oscar, LA resident Ronnie L. Sproles.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Sproles was driving a 1996 Toyota Tacoma east on US 190. At the same time, 36 year old Benny T. Bradley of Opelousas, LA was driving a 2007 Dodge Charger west on US 190. Sproles attempted to turn left through a guardrail barrier opening between the eastbound and westbound lanes of US 190. As Sproles attempted to cross the westbound lanes of travel, Bradley’s Charger struck the Tacoma on the passenger side.

Sproles, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the Tacoma and sustained fatal injuries from the crash. Bradley was wearing a seatbelt and suffered moderate injuries. Alcohol use is unknown at this time; however, Troopers have submitted a toxicology sample from both Sproles and Bradley to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.
