Port Allen - This morning shortly after 1:40 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a hit and run fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred on LA Hwy 76 east of LA Hwy 415 in West Baton Rouge Parish. The incident took the life of 48 year old Port Allen resident Denisce M. McCurley. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that McCurley was walking partially in the roadway eastbound on LA 76 when an unidentified eastbound vehicle struck her. This vehicle fled the scene; however, pieces of the vehicle were located near McCurley's body. The pieces are believed to belong to either a Ford or Mercury passenger car. A second eastbound vehicle then struck McCurley, and the driver of the second vehicle stopped and called 911. Evidence shows that McCurley was likely killed by the impact from the first vehicle. Intoxication on the part of McCurley is unknown at this time. State Troopers have submitted a toxicology sample from McCurley to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for further analysis. Troopers were unable to determine exactly what type of vehicle was involved in the crash, but do believe it is either a Ford or Mercury passenger car based on evidence left at the scene. The vehicle will possibly have damage to the right front headlight and marker light section. Troopers urge anyone with ANY information to contact Louisiana State Police Troop A at (225) 754-8500, or their local law enforcement agency. No piece of information should be considered insignificant. Troopers will follow all leads in an effort to bring this case to closure and get answers for McCurley's family and friends.
