Consequences of Impact” Mock Crash Scheduled at St. Amant High School

St. Amant – On Friday, December 14 at 9:30 am, St. Amant High School will be participating in “Consequences of Impact,” a mock fatality crash involving impaired and distracted driving. Students involved will act out a fatal crash scene scenario in front of their peers, allowing the students to see first-hand how drinking and driving affects everyone involved. Parents of students and teachers will also be playing parts in this scenario. The mock crash will emphasize the dangers and consequences of impaired driving and distracted driving, the importance of seatbelt use, and the emotional suffering families endure when a fatal crash occurs in reality.

This mock crash is an extension of “Sudden Impact,” a program designed to prevent fatalities and injuries from driving impaired, distracted, and/or unrestrained. “Sudden Impact” provides testimony to the ramifications of driving while impaired from a medical, law enforcement, and victim perspective. The one day program for high school sophomores, located at numerous hospitals across Southeastern Louisiana, places the teens in an unfamiliar environment while providing education on laws, decisions, communication and impairment. “Sudden Impact” is offered to area high schools and is conducted in Baton Rouge by Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center and Louisiana State Police (for more information on “Sudden Impact Louisiana,” please visit their Facebook page).

Several agencies will be providing their services to ensure the safety of everyone involved in the mock crash. Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, Louisiana State Police, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, St. Amant Fire Department, Gonzales Police Department, Gonzales EMS, Acadian Ambulance, Church Funeral Services, and Trading Post Wrecker Service will be participating in the scenario. Personnel from each agency will be available to answer all of the students’ questions at the conclusion of the event. This mock crash has been made possible largely due to the support of the St. Amant Fire Department.

Proactive educational initiatives such as “Consequences of Impact” strive to reduce the number of underage DWI’s and serious injury and fatality crashes while promoting the importance of sound decision making and behavior. Individuals from each of the agencies listed have graciously donated their time and talents to ensure a safe and successful event.

**All media outlets are invited to attend this event. **
