| TROOP A NEWS RELEASE December 13, 2012 Free Holiday Child Safety Seat Installation Event The Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force (LPSTF), Louisiana State Police Troop A and “Lexlee’s Kids” will collaborate to celebrate the holidays and promote safety on Saturday, December 15, 2012 from 12:00-3:00 pm at the Kohl’s Retail Center located at 10770 North Mall Dr., Baton Rouge, LA 70810. The LPSTF is a statewide network of child safety seat advocates who strive to minimize serious and fatal injuries due to motor vehicle crashes. The LPSTF will be available for parents and caregivers to drive up to Kohl’s and have their child safety seats inspected by certified professionals at no cost. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children under the age of 14. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2009 approximately 1,300 children lost their lives in motor vehicle crashes and over 179,000 were injured. During the holiday season, there are more vehicles on the roads and families may travel hundreds of miles to visit loved ones. Louisiana State Law requires the driver of a motor vehicle to ensure that EVERY child under the age of thirteen years in a motor vehicle equipped with safety belts is properly secured, regardless of seating position in the vehicle. Many deaths and injuries can be prevented by properly using child safety seats. 96% of child safety seats are installed improperly. Please visit us this Saturday and speak with a technician that will show parents and caregivers how to properly install child restraints and ensure that children are in the appropriate age/weight child seat.
