TROOP A – NEWS RELEASE September 9, 2012 Two Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash, Speed Suspected Factor Baton Rouge – Louisiana State Police Troop A investigated a multi-vehicle fatal crash today that claimed the lives of two Baton Rouge residents. The crash occurred on US 61 south of Pride Port Hudson Road in East Baton Rouge parish shortly after noon today. The roadway remained closed for approximately one hour while Troopers investigated the crash and cleared the scene. Troopers’ preliminary investigation revealed that Kenneth Cavin (W/M, age 19) of St. Francisville was driving a 2006 Ford pickup north on US 61 when he lost control of the pickup, crossed the median, and became airborne. As it rolled over, the pickup struck the top of a southbound 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis, being driven by Willie Ross Sr. (B/M, age 84) of Baton Rouge. Ross and his passenger, Jonas Ross (B/F, age 81) both sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office. Cavin sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. A third vehicle was struck by debris during the crash and the driver was uninjured. Troopers do not suspect impairment to have been a factor in the crash. However, they have submitted blood samples of each of the drivers to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis. Troopers do suspect speed to have been a factor in the crash, and charges are pending the outcome of the investigation. Contact Information: TFC Russell G. Graham II | |||
