Unrestrained Driver and Passenger Killed in Crash

ASCENSION PARISH- Last night, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on LA Highway 18 west of LA Highway 3120 which claimed the lives of two Donaldsonville women.

According to investigating Troopers, on September 28, 2012, at about 6:20 p.m., 24-year-old Brittany Huey-Riley of Donaldsonville was driving a 1978 Ford passenger car south on LA 18. For reasons still under investigation, Huey-Riley lost control of the vehicle, traveled off the roadway and struck a utility pole. Both Huey-Riley and the front seat passenger, 28-year-old Shakeria Riley of Donaldsonville, were unrestrained and were ejected from the vehicle. They were transported to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The back seat passenger, 17-year-old Marcus Campell of Donaldsonville, was properly restrained and sustained minor injuries.

It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash; however, routine toxicology samples have been obtained and will submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind motorists that Louisiana State Law requires that all occupants be properly restrained. While wearing a seat belt will not save you in every crash, statistics show it can greatly reduce your risk of injury in most crashes.
