| TROOP A NEWS RELEASE December 18, 2012 Two Vehicle Crash Results in Double Fatality St. Gabriel - This afternoon at approximately 11:15 am, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA 30 east of LA 74 in Iberville Parish. The crash took the life of 25 year old Kevdrinka T. Williams of Baton Rouge and her passenger, 20 year old Tremaine R. Wickem of New Orleans. Troopers responded to the crash scene after being notified by Gonzales Police Department that one of their officers had been involved in a vehicle pursuit on LA 30. Gonzales PD stated that the officer was attempting to stop a suspect that was believed to have been involved in a theft from the Tanger Factory Outlet Center in Gonzales. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Williams (who was attempting to evade Gonzales PD) was driving a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser west on LA 30. At the same time, 34 year old Warren Porta, III of Gonzales was driving a 2012 Toyota Tundra east on LA 30. Williams attempted to pass several vehicles on the westbound shoulder of LA 30. Williams lost control of her vehicle, causing it to re-enter the westbound lane of LA 30 and cross into the eastbound lane. Upon entering the eastbound lane of travel, Williams’ PT Cruiser struck the Tundra driven by Porta head-on. Both Williams and Wickem, who were not wearing seatbelts, sustained fatal injuries from the crash. Porta and a front seat passenger, 48 year old Bradley Nolan of Geismar, were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, and sustained only moderate injuries. Impairment on the part of Williams is unknown at this time; however, Troopers have submitted a toxicology sample from Williams to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. While Troopers continue their investigation into the crash, motorists are urged to remain vigilant while driving at all times. Making poor decisions in a vehicle such as driving recklessly or not wearing a seatbelt leads to serious injuries and deaths every day across the state. Making the responsible decision can mean the difference between life and death. Contact Information: TFC Jared L.
