TROOP A NEWS RELEASE March 23, 2013 Speed Possible Factor in Ascension Parish Fatal Crash Prairieville – This afternoon shortly after 2:00 pm, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 74 at LA Hwy 928 (Bluff Rd.) in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of 49 year old Slidell resident Cheryl A. Babylon. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Babylon was driving a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser eastbound on LA Hwy 74. At the same time, 35 year old Sunshine resident Mark Crochet was driving a 1999 Ford F-250 westbound on LA 74. For unknown reasons Babylon failed to negotiate a left hand curve, and her vehicle ran off the roadway to the right. Babylon overcorrected, causing her PT Cruiser to enter back into the roadway and cross into the westbound lane striking Crochet’s F-250 head-on. Despite the fact that she was properly restrained, Babylon sustained fatal injuries from the crash. Impairment on the part of Babylon is unknown at this time; however, excessive speed may have been a factor in the crash. Troopers have submitted a toxicology sample from Babylon to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Crochet suffered only minor injuries as a result of the crash. While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, Troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving. Never drive a motor vehicle when impaired or fatigued. Always remain buckled up while in a vehicle, regardless of seating position. Avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver’s attention away from the road. Contact Information: | |||
