TROOP A NEWS RELEASE December 21, 2012 Pedestrian Struck and Killed on US 190 in Port Allen Port Allen - This morning shortly after 1:45 am, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred on US Hwy 190 west of LA Hwy 1145 in West Baton Rouge Parish. The incident took the life of 57 year old Plaquemine resident Nathan C. Tobias, Jr. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that earlier in the morning Tobias, Jr. was traveling eastbound on US Hwy 190 in a 2006 Freightliner tractor-trailer. As he was slowing to turn left off of US Hwy 190, Tobias, Jr.’s Freightliner was struck in the rear by another Freightliner tractor-trailer, causing minor damage to both vehicles. After the crash, Tobias, Jr. exited his vehicle in order to place orange warning triangles in the roadway to alert motorists of the crash. As Tobias, Jr. was attempting to place warning triangles in the roadway, 19 year old Dylan G. Hood of Brusly was traveling eastbound on US Hwy 190 in a 2003 Chevrolet pickup. For unknown reasons Tobias, Jr. was struck by Hood’s vehicle, causing serious injuries. Tobias, Jr. was transported via ambulance to Baton Rouge General Mid-City Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash. Impairment on the part of both Hood and Tobias, Jr. is not suspected at this time; however, Troopers have submitted toxicology samples from both to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Troopers usually see an increase in serious injury and fatal crashes during this time of year. With the holiday season upon us, Louisiana State Police would like to remind motorists to be extra cautious when driving on our roadways. State Troopers will be on the roadways throughout this holiday season aggressively enforcing the state’s laws in an effort to keep travelers safe. Contact Information: TFC Jared L.
