This case stems from a MFCU investigation involving MauricioCordoba, a Direct Service Worker in the Medicaid program, who claimed to haveprovided services to his son while his son was incarcerated. MFCU agentsarrested Cordoba earlier this week. During the investigation, MFCU agents continued to reviewMedicaid claims and discovered Elaine Handcock, the recipient’s mother, wasalso listed as a Direct Service Worker. Records confirmed that Handcock wasemployed by Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority (JPHSA) as an APRN, andthat she claimed to have provided services to her son on the same dates and attimes she was working as an APRN with JeffCare, a JPHSA branch. The fraudulent claims Medicaid paid for overlapping datesand times that Handcock could not have provided services to her son totaled$1,282.50. The investigation was conducted by the Louisiana Departmentof Justice’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. Bond information was not immediately available. The investigation remains ongoing.
