Today, Attorney General Liz Murrill launched Louisiana’s newAthlete Agent Registration Portal, an online registrationsystem, and the first major operational milestone under Senate Bill 389,the landmark athlete agent reform law passed by the LouisianaLegislature.

The portal, administered by theAG’s Public Protection Division, requires all athlete agents seeking torepresent Louisiana athletes (including those focused on name, image, andlikeness (NIL) activities) to complete a registration process thatincludes a preliminary application, criminal backgroundcheck, and mandatory training developed in partnership with Advance.

SB 389 modernizes Louisiana’sathlete agent regulatory framework in several significant ways. The lawstrengthens existing registration requirements, creates a new regulatorycategory specifically for NIL agents, expands the AG’s civil and criminal enforcementtools, and ensures that agents who failto comply forfeit their right to compensation.

"Louisiana’s student athletesdeserve advocates who operate with integrity, transparency, and their bestinterests at heart. Senate Bill 389 gives my office the tools to ensure thatthose who seek to profit from our athletes are held to rigorous standards ofconduct,” said Attorney General Liz Murrill.

A key requirement of the new lawis mandatory background check and pre-registration education. Everyagent applying for registration must complete the program before an applicationcan be approved.

The AG’s Public ProtectionDivision has developed the registration application forms, prescribed themandatory training curriculum, and established background checkprocedures required under the new law. Agents may begin the registration process immediately at https://nil.ag.louisiana.gov/.

Universities and highschools across Louisiana are encouraged to share information about agentregistration requirements and athlete rights under SB 389 with their studentathletes and staff.
