Agents with Attorney General Liz Murrill's Louisiana Bureau of Investigation arrested an Egan man for multiple sex crimes against children.

28-year-old Wilfred James Menard Jr., of Iota Highway in Egan, was arrested by the Lafayette Police Department on February 10, 2026, for:

• 4 counts - Possession of child sexual abuse material in violation of LA R.S 14:81.1.

After being contacted by Lafayette Police Department, the case developed into a joint investigation with The Louisiana Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security Investigations, and Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office. 

On February 12, Menard Jr. was rearrested on the following charges by The Louisiana Bureau of Investigation:

• 25 Counts - 14:81.1 E(5)(a) -- Child Sexual Abuse Material Under the Age of 13 -- (Felony) (Lafayette Parish) 

In addition to the charges mentioned above, agents with The Louisiana Bureau of Investigation obtained an arrest warrant for Menard Jr. out of Acadia Parish for the following charges:

• 1 Count of 14:43.1 - Sexual Battery -- (Felony)
• 1 Count of 14:81- Indecent Behavior with Juveniles -- (Felony)
• 5 Count of 14:81.1 E (4)(a) - Production of Child Sexual Abuse Material under the age 13 -- (Felony)

Menard Jr. was booked into Lafayette Parish Correctional Center by Lafayette Police Department and rearrested by The Louisiana Bureau of Investigation.

Menard Jr.’s Acadia Parish arrest warrant will remain active at this time. 

"As you've seen throughout this week, we will continue to aggressively pursue and arrest those who harm the children of Louisiana," said Attorney General Liz Murrill.

His bond is:

• $100,000 - Lafayette Police Department
• $100,000 - Louisiana Bureau of Investigation (Lafayette Parish charges)
• $325,000 - Acadia Parish Active Warrant

The investigation is ongoing into possibly more sex crimes against children committed by Menard.
